Serbia wins silver

BELGRADE - Serbia won the silver medal at the Women's Handball World Championship after losing to Brazil 22-20 (13-11) in the final match in Belgrade on Sunday. This victory marks Brazil's greatest success in women's handball.

  Denmark took the bronze by beating Poland 30-26 (12-15) earlier in the day. Prime Minister Dacic congratulates women's handball team Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic congratulated late Sunday the Serbian women's national handball team on the great success of winning the silver medal at the Women's Handball World Championship, hosted by Serbia, said a statement from the Government Press Office. 

 "On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and on my own behalf, I extend to you my sincere congratulations on becoming the World Championship runners-up. You have demonstrated how one should play for the country and the national team, and proved the strength of Serbian handball," Dacic said in a congratulatory message. Serbian Parliament speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic also congratulated the women's national handball team, noting that the silver medal is a source of pride for everyone in Serbia. 

 Udovicic: This is phenomenal result for Serbia Minister of Sport Vanja Udovic has congratulated Serbia's women's handball team on winning the silver medal and the world championship, adding that the team achieved a phenomenal result. 

 "I congratulate the girls on the silver they have won. I would love it if everyone in this country were second in the world in something they did. This is a phenomenal result for Serbia and handball in Serbia, because we have practically had the opportunity to organize three large tournaments in one year, present a beautiful image to the world and show that phenomenal people live in Serbia," Udovicic stated.
