Kosovo denied IHF membership

10/27/2013 1:30:00 PM

DOHA - The International Handball Federation (IHF) denied the request of the Kosovo Handball Federation for membership in the organisation. The Serbian Handball Federation (RSS) released that Kosovo representatives at the Doha Congress on Saturday tried to win full IHF membership through the back door, regardless of the IHF Statute.
The release also states that Kosovo exerted major pressure on certain delegates but they failed to recognise these moves and react promptly. The Kosovo request was denied after the debate which gathered representatives of Serbia, Albania, Kosovo and representatives of IHF Hasan Moustafa and European Handball Federation (EHF) official Jean Brihault. At the meeting in Qatar, Serbia was for the first time in history granted the right to have its representative in the IHF as RSS President Velimir Marjanovic was appointed the president of the Commission d'Arbitrage as the highest ruling body of IHF, states the release.
