BELGRADE - Chief of the General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic said on Friday evening that the Serbian Armed Forces are really a factor of stability in the ground security zone.

“The key task of our military is that it must be a factor of stability and we are indeed that. All our efforts are aimed at ensuring peace and stability and serving our citizens, regardless of their ethnicity,” Dikovic said in a statement to Radio-Television of Serbia. Speaking about the Serbian army's engagement in peace-keeping missions, Dikovic noted that 118 soldiers are currently in six UN and two EU peace-keeping missions. “Our goal is to increase that number. In early November, we will send 180 people to Lebanon as part of the Spanish contingent, and talks on that are nearing the end,” Dikovic said.

“Peace-keeping missions are a priority of our army, as in this way, we do not only strengthen our capacities, but also Serbia's credibility, and together with other structures, we do everything in our power to bring Serbia closer to the European Union,” Dikovic said.
