BELGRADE - Serbian Railways Director General Dragoljub Simonovic has announced that the first annex to the agreement on the realization of a USD 800 million Russian loan for the railway line section between Belgrade and Pancevo will be signed on June 15.

This will be followed by signing an annex to the agreement for the purchase of 27 new diesel trains with money from the Russian loan, and the first train should arrive in Serbia in September of next year, Simonovic said at an international conference on the development railway and public transportation in Southeast Europe in Belgrade.

He said that during the next three to four years, the Serbian Railways will have about 60 new trains, 15 of which will be multi-system locomotives able to be run on railway lines outside Serbia that have different line voltage. Simonovic said that in the next five to seven years, the Serbian Railways will reach European standards and trains' average speed should be about 160 kilometers per hour, and on a section of the railway line between Belgrade and Budapest, it should even by as high as 200 kilometers per hour.
