Dacic: Getting date will be easier after June 20 meeting

ZAJECAR - Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic expects that the coming round of the high-level talks between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels on June 20 will make it easier for Serbia to get a date for the start of EU accession talks.

“This would be the twelfth round of the talks, and I hope that it will be such as to make it easier for Serbia to get a date for the negotiations after it” takes place, Dacic told Tanjug in the eastern Serbian city of Zajecar on Monday. After that meeting, European foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and enlargement commissioner Stefan Fuele will recommend opening EU membership talks with Serbia, Dacic said. “It means that we expect the (June 20) meeting and the meeting of the working group teams will be successful,” said Dacic.

The prime minister said that the agenda of the Brussels meeting has not yet been decided, but it is expected that it will discuss all outstanding issues. “The meetings will not be easy and since the agenda has not been concluded, it means that it could deal with a very broad range of topics, all regarding the implementation (of the April 19 agreement between Belgrade and Pristina),” said Dacic.
