German govt proposes granting date to Serbia

 BELGRADE - The German government proposed to the Bundestag to approve a starting date for Serbia's EU membership talks, it was confirmed in Belgrade by Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Suzana Grubjesic.

  “The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended to the Bundestag to give a positive signal that is to approve the positive decision on the start of Serbia's EU membership talks,” Dacic said in the Serbian parliament. At a joint press conference after a meeting with Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister Igor Luksic, Grubjesic said in response to Tanjug's question that this is good news, but added that the story of Serbia's further progress towards the EU is not over yet. 

 The deputy prime minister announced that she will pay a visit to Germany from June 10-12 during which she will confer with representatives of the German parliament on Serbia's EU integration. Bundestag will discuss Serbia's date on June 27, and the EU Council is expected to make a decision on the start of the talks with Serbia on June 28. Video Tanjug, illustration
