Chinese company to build motorway section

5/11/2013 1:30:00 PM BELGRADE - The Serbian government and Chinese company Shandong Hi-Speed Group have signed an agreement on construction of a 50 km-long section of the motorway stretching through Western Serbia amounting to USD 334 million.

The contract, which was signed by Minister of Constriction and Urban Planning Velimir Ilic, Director of public company Koridori Srbije Dmitar Djurovic and Deputy General Manager of the Chinese company Shandong Hi-Speed Group Zhu Wei on Friday, involves Ljig-Lajkovac-Ub-Obrenovac section totaling 5 kilometers and 230 meters with construction deadline of 37 months. After the signing ceremony, Ilic said in the Serbian government that a tender will be called soon for issuing concessions for construction of Belgrade-Obrenovac section and Ljig-Preljina section, adding that the estimated cost of construction stands at EUR 600 million.

 The draft concession for construction of Belgrade-Obrenovac section will be ready in a month, the minister said. Zhu said that he hopes that cooperation with Serbia will continue, adding that Shandong Hi-Speed Group is particularly interested in the construction of Belgrade-Obrenovac section on the motorway from Belgrade to the Montenegrin border, while Montenegro is due to construct the section from the border to the Port of Bar.

 The preparatory works will last three months, Zhu said, adding that Friday's agreement is very important for future cooperation, and stressing that Shandong Hi-Speed Group will stick strictly to Serbia's regulations when performing the construction works. Djurovic said that the expropriation of the sections will be competed in three-six months so that the works could be launched. The construction works on 24 km-long Lajkovac-Ljig section will include 16 bridges and one 990 m-long tunnel, involving at least 40 percent of companies from Serbia.
