NBS Governor: Inflation under control

4/30/2013 10:54:00 AM BELGRADE - National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Jogovanka Tabakovic has stated that inflation in Serbia is under control and that the average monthly inflation rate amounted to only 0.1 percent in the past five months.

"Inflation is under control and the measures that the National Bank has taken produce results," Tabakovic said in an interview for Belgrade-based daily Politika. In addition, the full effects of the government program of fiscal consolidation are expected in the coming period, and they will lead to the reduction of inflationary pressures, she said.

"With expected positive effects of the new agricultural season, this will allow inflation to return to target range. According to the latest insights, this should happen even before the end of the year," Tabakovic said when asked whether it is realistic to expect that the annual inflation target of four, plus or minus 1.5 percent will be accomplished.
