EU waits to hear Nikolic's stance on Kosovo

BELGRADE – The European Union is waiting to see what attitude the new President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, will take on Kosovo, Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert has said.

Degert expressed the hope that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina would be resumed as soon as the new government was formed.

Degert told Danas, a Belgrade-based daily, that the EU also wanted to see the implementation of the agreements reached so far, adding progress had been made when it came to civil registries and cadastres, mutual recognition of diplomas and so on.

Finding solutions to problems concerning daily lives of people and their full implementation is of crucial importance in the negotiation process, said Degert.

Degert said that he expected that the priorities of the new government would include the continuation of judicial reform, fight against corruption, implementation of a set of media laws, and a strategy to ensure macroeconomic stability.
