Nikolic: I did not say that Vukovar was Serb city

BELGRADE - Newly elected President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic denied Friday that he made any statement which said that Vukovar was a Serb city and that Croats have nothing to go back to there.

President Nikolic never made any such statement since the Serbian Progressive Party was formed, let alone between the two election rounds, says a statement issued by the office of Nikolic, in response to a statement by the President of Croatia Ivo Josipovic.

This is a treacherous lie, the policy of Tomislav Nikolic will be to build peace and stability in the region, the statement from Nikolic's office says.

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said, commenting what he said was a statement given by Nikolic to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, that Vukovar was a Serb city and that Croats have nothing to go back to there.

Nikolic's statement is not in the spirit of the policy of reconciliation and returns us to the policy of the 90s, Josipovic said for Vecernji list, adding that Croatia was opposed to this policy.
