FIFA postpones decision on Kosovo

BELGRADE - FIFA has postponed its decision on whether to allow Kosovo to play friendly matches against member federations, FIFA President Sepp Blatter said on Friday.

We will hold a meeting with the concerned federations, particularly Serbia, next Friday in Zurich. In the meantime, we need to get down on paper how we get to a decision, which for the time is still pending, Blatter said at the world governing football body's annual congress in Budapest.

On Tuesday, FIFA's executive committee gave its approval for national teams to play friendly matches against non-FIFA member Kosovo, after which the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) lodged a sharp protest.

UEFA President Michel Platini on Wednesday protested against FIFA's decision saying that this is a purely political issue, and that such a decision contravenes the UEFA statutes.
