Head of Kosovo District Goran Arsic arrested

GRACANICA – Kosovo's Interior Minister Bajram Redzepi has told Tanjug the police has arrested head of the Kosovo District Goran Arsic and that he would be kept in custody for 48 hours. Redzepi told Tanjug on Saturday Arsic and another Serb had been arrested following a report by some individuals stating Arsic had tried to force them to vote in Serbia's parliamentary election on May 6. Kosovo police spokesperson Baki Keljani stated for Tanjug the two Serbs were arrested at around 16:15 CET on Saturday in the village of Staro Gracko, Lipljan municipality.The residences of the two men were searched on Saturday and election material found in Arsic's home, related to the last election that the Serbian authorities held in Kosovo, Keljani noted. Kosovo Red Cross secretary Dragisa Murdinic confirmed to Tanjug on Sunday the police arrested Novica Zivic, Red Cross secretary in Lipljan, on Saturday. Serbia's Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic has stated that the motive for Arsic's arrest is to further complicate the situation in Kosovo and he asked the international community, especially EULEX, to ensure protection for the Serbs in Kosovo. Serbia will not hold local elections in Kosovo, but the parliamentary and presidential ones will be held on May 6.
