Lunacek against staging elections in Kosovo

VIENNA - Standing Rapporteur of the European Parliament for Kosovo Ulrike Lunacek suggested that the EP Resolution on Kosovo should also include a warning for Serbia that staging elections in Kosovo would be contrary to the international law.

In the amendments filed to the resolution she proposed, Lunacek warned the Serbian authorities that staging local elections in Kosovo would be contrary to the international law, especially UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

This would undermine regional stability and bilateral dialogue with Kosovo, Lunacek added in her amendments.
In the amendments Tanjug had a chance to review, Lunacek underscored that the modalities of potential participation of
Kosovo citizens holding Serbian citizenship in the forthcoming elections in Serbia should be agreed on with the Kosovo authorities in cooperation with UNMIK and OSCE.

As Lunacek's spokesman Wolfgang Machreich told Tanjug, EP MPs would discuss the resolution on Thursday.
