French KFOR soldier dies

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - A French KFOR soldier on duty at the Brnjak administrative crossing died after being transferred at a KFOR base Saturday, but the exact cause of death is still unknown, Tanjug learned at the missions headquarters Sunday.

The KFOR command told Tanjug early Sunday an investigation into whether the soldier had committed suicide or his death had been caused by an accident was underway.

KFOR refused to give details regarding the type of fatal injuries or the ways in which they might have taken place.

The French soldier was transferred from the Brnjak crossing to Camp Bondsteel, the main base of the U.S. Army under KFOR command, while in critical condition at about 7 p.m. Saturday.

The local Serbs, behind the barricades on the road leading to the Brnjak crossing around the clock, allowed the military police unit to get to the crossing to conduct the investigation.
